How to set parameter ID !

How to set the parameter id against a button to reach a new screen....

i have created a copy of VA01.....by copying the entire code

from system-->status

i am getting the exact screen output.....but there the change and display button are not working..as they are related with VA02 AND VA03...some one asked me to set the parameter id.....and use call transaction..

please help

Have you checked the function code of your button in the SE80 screen painter? Maybe it has got the wrong function code. Confirm it by double-clicking the button, and checking the field FctCode.

Depending on the button Function Code, the program take different decisions.

Taking a copy of an entire SAP transaction like VA01 and its program code is a very bad idea. SAP regularly releases notes with fixes and upgrades to all kinds of programs, and these will be missed by your copy of the program / screen, meaning that you may cause data corruption in standard tables.

If you need extra or changed functionality in VA01/VA02/VA03 it is better to use one of the many available exit mechanisms, or use the enhancement framework, or even repair the code. At least that way support packs will highlight changes through SPAU when they are applied.

If you just want to have a cut down input screen / front-end or want extra values to default you could look at an up front program that fills the standard screen using BDC / Call transaction, although this is likely to lose support at some point as SAP moves more towards Web Dynpro and similar new screen technologies.
