Is it possible to draw a box in smartforms in a non specific place on the page?

Hi Lindy,

the dynamic position of window, box, ... in the Smartform have been already asked. I have search a lot of time but never see a valid answer.

I think the only solution is to create several box, and display only one with the condition.

I am trying to design a form where a driver needs to fill in boxes on the form with start kilometers, end kilometers, vehicle registration, hirer's comments etc.

The problem is that I don't want these boxes to be in a specific place. I know it is possible to do it with windows, but then these will have a specific place on the form.

Is this going to be possible in smartforms?

Maybe if you create a text with line border and you specify in start time : at new line ...

I'm pretty experienced with SmartForms and pretty sure

there is no functionality like that. Maybe I could come

up with a proposal for you if I understood what benefit

you expect to have by making the layout "dynamic".

Hi Andreas,

The form I am trying to design is an instruction form for a driver.

Basically it lists the drivers instructions for the day, then has boxes where the driver can fill in vehicle registration, start kilometers and end kilometers.

There is also then a place where the customer can tick a box if he was happy with the service, or enter comments into a box if he was not happy with the service.

The problem is that the driver instructions can be any length, so I cannot place these boxes at a specific place on the page. This is what I originally did, but the client does not want to see a big empty space if the instructions are really short.

Thanks for your help. I would be interested to here of a solutions, but if it is quite complicated, don't worry about it as I am sure it can be done with a sapcript instead.

Why don't you create a text with border line ?

You will have a box fit to the text size/line ...

Thanks for your explanation, here are some proposals

(of which I know they are probably not the "solution"

you are looking for):

1. You could make it a 2-page-form, the first of which is filled with the densely arranged fields your client wants to see without huge reserved spaces for the variable length of the drivers instructions. Those you could place in the MAIN-window on the second page.

2. Use 2 or 3 forms different only in the size of the drivers' instructions window and let the FM-calling ABAP program call the "right" form according to the actual length of the text to be put in this window.

3. Another technique I often used when having the problem of tight space which is supposed to be used most effectively:

Fill in the text with different sizes depending on its length. Means: On your form you use a window where you can fill in either 100 characters Courier/size 12 or 200 characters in size 8.

It's begin to be complex, you would like to have a box that fit the size of the text, but with a minimum size ? ...

Maybe, if there is no text, write a line with only a '.' at the end, or maybe a header ...

Thanks for your help regarding this.

Am going to try it as a sapscript first as I think you can draw boxes using X and Y coordinates.

If this does not work, will try using different forms depending on length of instructions text.
