Any difference in using BAPI_EMPLOYEE_ENQUEUE and HR_EMPLOYEE_ENQUEUE

Hi to all

Please tell me is there any difference using

HR_EMPLOYEE_ENQUEUE and BAPI_EMPLOYEE_ENQUEUE function module.

I am using a bdc in which i am calling PA30 HR data maintenance.

Please guide.

No Difference.

BAPI_EMPLOYEE_ENQUEUE wraps HR_EMPLOYEE_ENQUEUE.

There is no difference ...

In FM :

BAPI_EMPLOYEE_ENQUEUE

HR_EMPLOYEE_ENQUEUE is called ...

Hi Anubhav, Both function modules are used to lock the employee. But using BAPI_EMPLOYEE_ENQUEUE fm employee can be locked in remote system as well.but using HR_EMPLOYEE_ENQUEUE fm employee is locked local system only. This is only one difference between them because if u see BAPI function module source code u can see directly HR_EMPLOYEE_ENQUEUE is being called. I hope that ur doubt resolved. Regards, Venkat.O

Just some additional information for people reading this thread.

I noticed there is another difference between the two function module.

HR_EMPLOYEE_ENQUEUE is not supported by SAP as it is not released for client.

BAPI_EMPLOYEE_ENQUEUE is released.

It is stated under the attributes tab.

I have been using HR_EMPLOYEE_ENQUEUE for 9 years after an SAP Consultant showed it to me with no problems just like I have been using HR_INFOTYPE_OPERATION which was shown to me by the same SAP Consultant so I don't put a lot of stock in that "Not Released".

I had recently raised an OSS regarding HR_EMPLOYEE_ENQUEUE and SAP told me it is not released. Thus, they are not providing support.

that's why I did some google and found BAPI_EMPLOYEE_ENQUEUE which is exactly the same thing but released.

If a FM is "Not Released" then SAP shouldn't have it available to use. It's ok for SAP to use it in 3 Classes and 24 programs but we shouldn't. Right!

My opinion: This is a big problem, and SAP never provided an easy solution. At a time I think they wanted to use the package interfaces to forbide the use of all non-released objects but maybe they stepped back because too many clients were already using too many internal objects. But as a rule-of-thumb, we must always prefer released objects because SAP may retire non-released objects, that reduces the risks of régressions/extra work in our custom programs. Of course, I also use many unreleased objects when there's no choice.
