Dictionary field not displaying values..

Hi,

I designed a subscreen with a field from a table called TTXJ. The field is the TXJCD, the tax jurisdiction field. But when I test the screen, I dont see any values fetched from the table and displayed.

What could be the problem ? Can anyone please help ?

HI Rad,

When You design a screen and get a Dictionary Table's field, that doesn't get you the value from the table.

For that, you need to fetch the data in the Module Pool Program and that data can be displayed.

You still need to do a select against the table.

tables: ttxj.
Select Single * from ttxj
             where ....

Using a data dictionary field on your screen is not going to bring the values into the field automatically. You have to write code in your PAI or PBO depending on if you are displaying or reading the field.

But if you are talking about the F4 values, then you need to set the attributes of the screen field correctly. For the possible entries attribute, select '1'. Make sure that the box for 'From Dictionary' is checked.

Hi,

If you have placed text fields on subscreen from program it_ttxj-txjcd ( a field of internal table ) on subscreen and

retreiving fields from TTXJ into internal table.

Select * from ttxj into it_ttxj.

Read table it_ttxj index 1.

This might be a case where u cant get the records displayed on subscreen.

Thanks to all. Now, I am able to understand that I need to write the logic to fetch the tax code from TTXJ table. As I am new to programming, I find difficult writing syntax free ABAP statements. Can anyone help me with it please ??

Logic will be...

1. Create an internal table following the structure of TTXJ.

2. Retrieve the Tax jurisdiction field data from the table and populate in the internal table.

3. Associate/link/populate this list of values in the screen field ttxj-txjcd.

I hope this will display the values in the list !!

Similarly , i want to write the code to add the selected value into another table. Can u please tell me the insert related statements too.

Hi,

One more problem I am facing with the programming is whenever I type data or export etc kind of statements and my syntax is correct, I get the syntax error during checking which says,

"Statememt "DATA" is not defined. Check your spelling.spelling".

"Statememt "EXPORT" is not defined. Check your spelling.spelling".

for e.g. i typed

EXPORT TTXJ-TXJCD TO MEMORY ID 'TAXJD'.

data it_ttxj like ttxj occurs 1000.

I even tried EXPORT TTXJ-TXJCD TO MEMORY ID TAXJD.

for any statement, i get the same kind of message.

why ???

ITAB3 TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF ITAB3_TYPE WITH

NON-UNIQUE DEFAULT KEY INITIAL SIZE 2.

TYPES: BEGIN OF ITAB_LINE,

CLUSTR TYPE INT2,

CLUSTD(1000) TYPE X,

END OF ITAB_LINE.

DATA: ITAB TYPE TABLE OF ITAB_LINE.

EXPORT F1 FROM F1

F2 FROM F2

ITAB3 FROM ITAB3

TO INTERNAL TABLE ITAB.

You can't put it directly in the PAI or PBO. From there, you have to call a module and then put in your ABAP statement.

Hmmm....Thanks Rob. Things are getting complicated here !! Now how do I create a module and call it ??

I saw different types of modules like subroutines, function modules, macros etc.. What am I supposed to create and how ??

I am getting interest in ABAP !!

Since you are new to programming, I would suggest working with list processing and move on to dialogue programming when you are more experienced. There are a lot more tricks to master in dialogues.
