Hello all,

What does the below message mean? How should I solve this error? What is the importance of item category ?

No item category available (Table T184 ZIPC 0001 )

Message no. V1320

Diagnosis

No item category could be determined for the

combination ZIPC 0001 .

System Response

The system does not allow further processing of this item.

Procedure

Check the entries in table T184 by means of which

item category determination is controlled.

If you do not have the authorization to do this yourself,

contact your system administrator.

Hi,

The table T184 contains all the item categories defined for the sales document type.

With the combination of data that you have choosen is not correct and are not maintained in that way in the config of definition of sales document types.

Contact your Functional owner who will help you with the config.

Well, an item category is determined based on order type (Inquiry, sales order etc) and item category group (like NORM, DIEN etc which are defined in material master record).

It is determined from the configuration which is done here.

Sales and Distribution -> Sales -> Sales Documents -> Sales Document Item -> Assign Item categories

How and Why an Item category is important?

An Item category is used for determining whether an item specified in an order/inquiry is relevant for pricing, delivery etc. For example an service item do not require a delivery, free of charge items do not require pricing etc. The item category determines that.

How does an item category determines it?

It is determined from the item category configuration which is done here.

Sales and Distribution -> Sales -> Sales Documents -> Sales Document Item -> Define Item categories

No item category is determined message means that you have not specified any item category for the order type ZIPC. Please check the configuration mentioned above. Specify some item category for ZIPC there.
