what does this export parameter

i) means ?

ii) What is tis use?

EMERGENCY_FLAG If this parameter is unequal to SPACE, no physical name is defined in the logical path. An emergency physical name was created from table FILENAME and profile parameter DIR_GLOBAL.

Exactly what it says:

It could not determine a result by the normal rules, so it used some emergency rules to come up with an emergency result.

I don't like this: if the normal algorithm fails (because of missing data), that tends to go unnoticed, because the programmer checks on sy-subrc, but not on the emergency field.
