please explain for the following.

difference between foreground and background

different select queries.

Foregound means executing a program Online .

Background means executing a program exectuing a program in background i.e without user interaction. This is done by creating a JOB in Tcode SM36.

Different types of SELECTs:

1. SELECT .. ENDSELECT

2. SELECT SINGLE

3. SELECT .. INTO TABLE <ITAB>

Press F1 On the SELECT statement for more info.

hi,

foreground means executing the report by using f8 button(execute)

back groung means

executing the report in background,

in the sense

wen tto process large amount of data, we will execute reports in back ground and give time schedule for executing the report.

this are the syeps to execute report in back groung

from the selection screen

Program-> execute in Background

give Output device as LP01(default local printer)

then by default it goes to the Sm36

then set the parameters

click on Start Condition

Click on DATE and TIME enter date scheduled Start and END times

click on Period Values

Click on HOURLY/WEEKLY etc

CLick on RESTRICTIONS also to use further criteria.

so your job will be scheduled and run as per your requirement.

and in SM37 Transaction check the status of that JOB

Maaya,

We can schedule a job as background both by coding or by using SM36.Genrally we schedule a job as a background when the execution is taking more and more time.Once the job is scheduled as a background the output will be available in the spool from where we can get the output.

If a program is having ws_upload then you can't schedule it as a background job.

If it is an ALV report which is giving the output in the form of a GRID when used REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY and scheduled as a background job you will be able to see the outpt only in the form of a list as you see when used REUSE_ALL_LIST_DISPLAY.

sy-batch is the field which determines whether a job is schedule as a foreground or background.
