ABAP reading Excel

I have an Excel file created outside of SAP that needs to be read as input in a batch job (not in the SAPGUI), an Excel file.

Is it possible for an ABAP prograrm to read as input an Excel File?

No, in a batch job you cannot upload file from presentation server. So you can not use GUI_UPLOAD or any other excel file upload function module used to upload file from presentation server.

If the file is placed on Application server, you can use OPEN DATASET command and read the file.
