Web application can be integrated with SAP R/3 using Connectors(Ex java connectors which is supplied by SAP). The data frm Web application can be obtained in the from of XML format and this data can be fed into SAP XI where it supports the XML data. This whole integration can be done using the connectors readily available / u have to develop ur own connectors/Adapters for this intergration depending on the requirement. U can look for more information abt this connectors with iway.

Windows server or advanced server with latest service patch.

2. IE 6.0 with latest service patch

3. Install Microsoft office and winzip, acrobat

4. Install JDK with version 1.4.2_03 or above with the corresponding JVM

5. Copy the dumps of following DVDs into the installation drive.

• Installation Master DVD

• Installation Export

• Additonal Components for SAP BW/SAP XI,SAP MI,SAP KW

• SAP Web As Java

9. Start the installation from the DVD dump Installation Master DVD.

10. When installing the ABAP Database the SID of the oracle default database should be different the ABAP database SID.

U can go through the Installtion Guides for Installing XI from http://service.sap.com/instguides (SR1 installation)

u can also refer to service.sap.com/platforms to see the available platform on which XI can be installed. ( Windows/linux/UNIX)

or you can even go through this weblog which clearly talks to you about XI installation

XI installation

In addition to this installation guide you also need to download the XI configuration guide which is very useful for technical configurations of various adapters and XI system.

At the same place you will also get the XI configuration guide e.g XI30ConfigGuideSPS11.pdf.

U can also download SAP Exchange Infrastructure 3.0 SR1 Installtion Guide from the articles scetion.

In simple words regarding learning XI, there is an abundance of information on SDN and help.sap.com…. So I think it will be better for you to search information there rather than me just providing you links….which will just go on and on and on….so I felt it is better for you to go and search so that not only you get information on SAP XI but also explore SDN in its real sense.

Following are the links to weblogs which will help to develop the basic scenarios.

/people/prateek.shah/blog/2005/06/08/introduction-to-idoc-xi-file-scenario-and-complete-walk-through-for-starters - IDoc to File

/people/ravikumar.allampallam/blog/2005/03/14/abap-proxies-in-xiclient-proxy - ABAP Proxy to File

/people/sap.user72/blog/2005/06/01/file-to-jdbc-adapter-using-sap-xi-30 - File to JDBC

/people/prateek.shah/blog/2005/06/14/file-to-r3-via-abap-proxy - File to ABAP Proxy

/people/venkat.donela/blog/2005/03/02/introduction-to-simplefile-xi-filescenario-and-complete-walk-through-for-starterspart1 - File to File Part 1

/people/venkat.donela/blog/2005/03/03/introduction-to-simple-file-xi-filescenario-and-complete-walk-through-for-starterspart2 - File to File Part 2

/people/ravikumar.allampallam/blog/2005/06/24/convert-any-flat-file-to-any-idoc-java-mapping - Any flat file to any Idoc

/people/arpit.seth/blog/2005/06/27/rfc-scenario-using-bpm--starter-kit - File to RFC

https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/1685

What is SAP XI?

SAP Exchange Infrastructure is SAP’s platform for process integration based on the exchange of XML messages.

1. It provides a technical infrastructure for XML based message exchange in order to connect SAP components with each other as well as with non-SAP components.

2. It delivers business process integration knowledge to the customer in the form of SAP pre-defined business scenarios.

3. It provides an integrated tool set for building new business scenarios by defining and maintaining all integration relevant information. (“Shared collaboration knowledge”).

Before we take a closer look at how the Exchange Infrastructure will enter into the IT landscape of every SAP customer, let’s take a closer look at the capabilities as well as the strategic direction of XI. This particular module of Net Weaver is one of the most powerful and is undeniably the most critical. Its purpose is really three-fold:

Connect:

XI has the ability to connect all applications regardless of whether it is an application

From a 3rd party or from SAP. The solution has pre-built connectivity to all SAP modules

Such as SAP CRM and utilizes the Adapter Framework to integrate 3rd Party solutions

such as Siebel, People Soft, Legacy systems, or AS/400s and Mainframes.

Coordinate:

XI has the ability to define a path/workflow for each business transaction that is

Integrated. The system actively routes each message to ensure that it is properly

Delivered from the source to the target destination. Active monitoring allows

Administrators to manage document exchange on an exception basis.

Communicate:

XI has the ability to translate files into any format whether an internal file format or any

Business to Business integration standard including but not limited to an XML format, an

EDI format, a marketplace, or a Web Service. Finally, there are multiple communication

Protocols included which allow the routing of a file over protocols such as s/FTP, http/s,

SOAP, ebMS, Value-Added Networks, or EDI INT (AS1, AS2).

Understanding The SAP Exchange Infrastructure_

Now, you might be saying to yourself, we already have solutions that provide all of this

Functionality. True, most organizations have invested previously in an integration strategy, but what we see in over 90% of organizations is that they have multiple translators and communication brokers, which they are supporting on a daily basis. This

is both a resource drain as well as a monetary drain. For example, it is not uncommon to see the following even in smaller organizations:

• Multiple Point to Point connectivity: For example, R/3 connected to a 3rd party

Warehouse Management Solution via an internally developed adapter or with the SAP

Business Connector

• A 3rd party EAI Integration Broker to connect legacy mainframe systems to SAP and

WMS

• A 3rd party EDI translator to communicate messages

• A 3rd party XML broker to communicate XML messages to marketplaces and non-EDI

Trading partners

• A communication server that focuses on sending messages via FTP, Value-Added

Networks and Internet protocols such as AS2 solution of choice for SAP end users

Interface-

XI –Starter

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/e1/8e51341a06084de10000009b38f83b/frameset.htm

SAP XI - Where to Find Information

https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/library/xi/sap%20xi%20-%20where%20to%20find%20information.pdf

All the information you need in XI :

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/0f/80243b4a66ae0ce10000000a11402f/frameset.htm

To understand the architecture of XI, Please go through this link,

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/14/80243b4a66ae0ce10000000a11402f/frameset.htm

You can also go through the url for Elearning :

https://www.sdn.sap.com/sdn/elearning.sdn
