BAPI And LSMW

Hi All,

I see that in everybody says if "BAPI is available" thats the efficient method. But what do you mean by "if available" we can create it by our own right?

Also in LSMW can I link my own BAPI Program ? And what r the steps required if I want to use BAPI in LSMW?

BAPIs are SAP delivered function modules that perform some business function. Most BAPIs perform the same logic that standard transactions do. Not all business functions is SAP have a corresponding BAPI. Yes, you can create your own BAPIs to perform some business function, but this business function should probably be "custom". Meaning that it is updating a custom "Z" table. I do not suggest trying to write your own BAPI to do standard functionality in SAP.

Can u tell me what are the steps involved in Using BAPI in LSMW.. ? While I was trying to save object attributes using a BAPI program, it asked me to set up default idoc inbound properties.. Can u tell me how to do that?

I've never used a BAPI in LSMW. What exactly are you trying to upload.

Isn't there a standard batch/direct input program assoicated with your object. I don't use BAPIs to upload "once & done" data. I would suggest using the batch/direct input method.

Please take a look at The last reply in this thread details a step-by-step procedure to configure an inbound IDOC.

You can additionally download documentation on LSMW from http://service.sap.com/lsmw. It contains step-by-step procedures for uploading data. Additionally, documentation of BAPIs themselves might also be helpful.

Thank u for that link shehryar Khan. But I am not able toopen the second link . It is asking for a user and password. Do i need to register in something for that?

I tried that tcode. But i am not able to figure it out how do u define number range for a particular Partner type?

Hi Kelly,

This is a config setting. Typically functional consultants decide them while configuring the system. Now, if you are creating a business partner with an external number, shouldn't that number conform to whatever is configured in the system?

Anyway, if you are talking about Business Partners in general, not the SD customer partners, then here is the path where you configure the number ranges by partner grouping(not the type. There is no number range assignment by partner type under this section).

Transaction SPRO.

IMG~~>Cross-Application Components~~>SAP Business Partner~~>Basic Settings~~>Number Ranges and Groupings

In this path, the first one 'Define Number Ranges', defines the number ranges and the second one 'Define Groupings and Assign Number Ranges' defines the groupings and assigns the number ranges defined in the first step.

Hi,

Yes you need a SAP Service Marketplace ID to access the site. Someone in your organization will have this ID and password. If you are working for a customer, then the customer will have a marketplace ID as well. See if anyone can help you with that.
