Getting back to previous version

Hi Folks,

What are the repercurssions when we get back to a previous version in the Development using version mangement?

Is it advisable to do so ?

Can I delete the changes what I made rather than getting back to previous version?

To delete changes, you would have to know exactly what changes you made

if you are unsure about going back to the previous version, then open the code and copy it to the new version

but it is safe to use version management

that is why SAP introduced the concept

Hi Kiran,

It depend on your requirement. If you don't want any of your changes and want to store to the earlier version then the best solution is get back the earlier version using version management.

Hi,

Well you can safely go back to the older version because the current version would always be avaliable to you to go back to once you revert to a older version you would always have the current verion in the version management so incase that does not work you can go back to the version that you want to and delete the changes and try that way .

But reverting to a older request is a safe way of reverting the changes.

Hi,

Thanks Kris and Atish.

So,all I have to do is choose the version which I want to retrieve and press RETRIEVE.This will ask for a transport request,right?

After retrieving it back to previous version I can incorporate the new logic and then transport it to quality and production subsquently.

Do I need to take care of anything else if I am going to use RETRIEVE.

Hello Kiran,

you can compare the two versions by clicking on the 2nd toolbar button in version management

1. I don't think it will ask for a request, it will take the same request that you specified automatically

2. yes u can

3. no. nothing else

Yes,even I heard of what you said like reverting back to previous request.

Does reverting back to previous version doesn't do the same as reverting back to previous request.?

Hi Kiran,

Let me make the things very simple.

All the changes made to the program are stored in the version management.

Lets say there are

TR3 Test3

TR2 Test2

Tr1 Test1

So when say you retrieve the Test2 version and add it to some TR and make some changes and release this TR then your version management look like this. TR4 is the latest TR.

Hope it is clear. So at any point you can retrieve any version

TR4 Test4

TR3 Test3

TR2 Test2

Tr1 Test1
