ALV printing: split line

All,

When printing an ALV list the line (row) is automatically split when the end of the page (right side) is reached. Although the information of the ALV list is displayed on 1 row, the printed version is spread over 2 lines. I know that the reason for this is the format of the page (printer, spool request).

Does anyone know if there is a possibility to not split the line on the same page? I want the list to be printed exactly the same as the ALV list is displayed, spread over multiple pages. The line should not be split into different pieces on the same page, but be split across different pages.

Any help is welcome.

Hi Kris,

Unfortunately what you want is not directly possible with ALV printing.

When printing values (fields and text) on a line, SAP take into account the maximum length of the printable number of characters on a line and automatically will go to the next line if there is insufficient space.

Printing like in Windows is based on WYSIWYG, so if your printed area is larger (wider) that the actual paper, windows will print it on the next page. You could demonstrate that with MS Excel as example.

Now i think, you want the same thing to happen, using ALV. So it is possible, but you will encounter other problems that need to be solved.

Simply set your ALV type to MS Excel (use a template that uses ALL 256 columns) and use a LOCAL printer. In that way you will get the same results as with MS Excel (printing excess columns on next pages before starting with new rows).

But of course you will loose some ALV special details that you have to compensate.

How can I set the ALV type to MS excel? What needs to be done in the program.

Can you also indicate which ALV special details I will loose?
