source list functionality

Hi all,

can anyone tell me what is the purpose of maintain source list.

What tables it would be affect and what are essential things to create a source list like material , plant

i.e can we maintain a ource lidst just be using a material number or do ewe need the plant as well.

Source lists are master data which determines from whom a buyer can buy a material from. These tie specific vendors to materials and are copied into purchase reqs when they are created by MRP. These are not the same as Purchase Info Records, which are used to populate default values into purchase orders.

it affects the table EORD.

essential things are materail, plant, vendor ,valid from and till date, purchasing organization
