ABAP conversion to non-Unicode ECC 6.0 system

Hi,

We're planning an upgrade from 4.6C to ECC 6.0. I'm charged with understanding the implications of this on our custom abap code.

I'm now quite comfortable with what work we will have to do if we make the ECC 6.0 a Unicode system.

What I can't seem to get a clear answer on is, what is the extent of syntax differences between 4.6C and a non-unicode ECC 6.0 system? I understand that the syntax check is much stricter, but is this only the case if Unicode is activated.

I have provided some estimates to our client for making all our custom ABAP unicode compliant, but I need to also provides estimates to convert to a non-unicode ECC 6.0 system.

I'm finding it very difficult to find information on syntax differences between 4.6C and non-unicode ECC 6.0.

Can anyone help please?

While doing Upgrade You have to aware of all related program like BDC's , Screens related

errors and all dictionary related problems.

Some function modules may become obsolete, and some screens will change

and some new fields will be added in the new versions etc.

Also take care of SPAU and SPDD tcodes.

You should be able to know about Unicode concept in sap.

Technical Upgrade is only a version upgrade without any functionality changes.

Hi folks,

Thanks very much for the answers so far to my thread. However, the links provided all relate to Unicode. I already have quite a good understanding of that.

My question was really about non-Unicode. I want to understand the differences between 4.6c syntax check and the ECC 6.0 syntax WITHOUT Unicode enabled.

As I understand it, if an ABAP has the Unicode flag set, then SAP executes a much stricter syntax check than when there is no Unicode flag set. However, I have also read that even without the Unicode flag set, there are still some syntax differences between 4.6C and ECC 6.0. I'm trying to understand the extent of the program changes I will need to make when converting ABAP code from 4.6C to non-Unicode ECC 6.0.

That information does not seem to available in the links provided so far.
