Logical System name is used to indiacte the application system to which you are ging to send the data.

Partner profiles use the above Logical System name to determine the system to which the data is to be sent ie you have to tell wether inbound or outbound.

Suppose If you are doing IDOC to File scenario ,have to mention the Outbound Parameter in we20 ie IDOC message type name.

we use them to show where the IDOC should go (outbound)

or what should process IDOCs (inbound)

for more details about partner profiles and IDOCs

<a href="/people/michal.krawczyk2/blog/2006/10/11/xi-new-book-mastering-idoc-business-scenarios-with-sap-xi">Mastering IDoc Business Scenarios with SAP XI</a>

rewards if useul,

regards,

nazeer

Hello Smith,

Partner function just indicate the type of logical system.

In ALE/EDI IDoc interfaces you need to send data to the external partner (which can be some external system (LS=Logical system) or some external entity (KU = Customer, LI - Vendor).

From business point of view this distinction makes sense as we can identify from the partner function the type of entity to which data is sent.

LS partner function is mostly used in ALE scenarios whereas other LI, KU are mostly used in EDI scenarios where a subsytem is involved.

These partner functions make more sense in EDI scenarios like customer (KU) sending purchase order to Vendor (LI).

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Gajendra.
