Data type "string_table" is not found - Please help.

Hello,

I am trying to copy a custom function module from a SAP 6.4 to an older version of SAP - version 4.6.

When I run syntax check on my code, I get an error on data type string_table.

Is this data type not defined in previous versions of SAP? Is there a simpler way to define this data type?

Hi Naren,

When I double-click on this data type from the ABAP editor, it takes me to the definition screen.I wish I could put screenshots in this message but I don't know how. Anyway, the definition says it is a "table" type. There are four tabs underneath - Attributes, Line Types, Initialization, and Access Key. Under "Line Type," the properties are as follows:

Predefined Type

Data Type: STRING

No. of Characters: 0

Decimal Places: 0

You can declare like this..

DATA: ITAB TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF STRING.

***Give the appropriate internal table name..Here i have give ITAB..

You can try to create the same data type as a custom data type via SE11in your 46c system ie

a structure with one field of char type

DATA TYPE STRING is not available in lower versions.

I am not sure if STRING is available in 46C. Try to pick a table type that is CHAR type with lenght that is long enough for you to fit in your data. If not available, create one.

Yes..I am able to declare TYPE TABLE OF STRING..in my program..I am in 4.6c

It doesn't work in our system. It is 4.6C.

If you are able to do it, I have a feeling that ABAP development environment is decoupled from the base SAP system. Although the system version is 4.6C for both of us, I feel you have a newer version of ABAP environment.

This STRING_TABLE is defining an EXPORTING parameter in the signature of the function module, yes?

The table type STRING_TABLE is NOT available in 46c, this is the issue. You could create your own table type ZSTRING_TABLE and use that instead.

Or you can use the table type WRB_STRING_TABLE which is available in 46c.
