hi friends,

can any one plz tell me why SE14 transaction is used for.

Hi,

You can call the database utility from the initial screen of the ABAP Dictionary with Utilities ® Database utility (Transaction SE14). The initial screen for the database utility appears.

You can use the database utility to edit all the database objects that are generated from objects of the ABAP Dictionary. These are database tables that are generated from transparent tables or physical table pools or table clusters, indexes, database views.

Since different functions are required for different object types, a separate maintenance screen is displayed for each object type. You can go to the corresponding maintenance screen by entering the object name and selecting the object type in the initial screen of the database utility. You go directly to this screen from the maintenance screen of the object in the ABAP Dictionary with Utilities ® Database utility.

Hi VK,

SE14 : Database Utility to perform table maintenance such as deleting the table or adjusting the table when there is a structure change.

Hi Vijay,

The database utility is the interface between the ABAP Dictionary and the relational database underlying the R/3 System.

This tools allows you to delete all the data in the tables.

You can call the database utility from the initial screen of the ABAP Dictionary with

Utilities -> Database utility (Transaction SE14).

You can use the database utility to edit all the database objects that are generated from objects of the ABAP Dictionary.

These are database tables that are generated from transparent tables or physical table pools or table clusters, indexes, database views and matchcode pooled tables or matchcode views.

If you want to use the database utility, you need authorization for authorization object

S_DDIC_OBJ, e. g. S_DDIC_ALL.

Hi Vijay,

I will tell you in a simple way why se14 transaction is useful with an example..

Actually se14 transaction is used to adjust the database. we can also use this by utilities->database utility.

For Eg:

If we have a Zee (User defined ) table. if you have uploaded 3 fields in it and activated it and you are using that table for some time. Then after sometime if your client asks for another two tables to be updated in the same table . If you update and activate the table , it will not activate and it will say you an error called database cannot be activated. Then this database utility is useful. Simply go to utilities-> Database utility and adjust the database . If now you activate the table it will actiavate. Hope you understood this example. If any queries give reply to this .
