Hi,

ALE uses IDocs to exchange data between logical systems.An IDoc consists of a header, several data segments and status records.

The contents, structure, sender, receiver and current status of the IDoc are defined in the IDoc header.

Each data segment contains a standard header consisting of a sequential segment number, a description of the segment type and a 1000 character long string field containing the actual data of the segment.

The status records show the history of the processing steps applied to the IDoc so far.

All records in the IDocs, which come after the control record are the IDoc data. They are all structured alike, with a segment information part and a data part .

Segment defines the format and structure of a data record. Segments are reusable components. The segment info tells the IDoc processor how the current segment data is structured

and should be interpreted.

For each segment SAP creates

Segment Type (version independent)

Segment Definition (version dependent)

Segment Documentation

The segment name corresponds to a data dictionary structure with the same name,

which has been created automatically when defining the IDoc segment definition

with transaction WE31 .
