URGENT : Problem with SAP Note implementation

Hi Gurus,

I am implementing a SAP note which has got only 1 program change.

While implementing in Txn SNOTE,it pops up a window with another pre-requisite note which has changes in 3 different programs.

I understand that the pre-requisite note is already implemented in the system by an old Support pack.

My question is : Will this pre-requisite note overwrite the program(s) of the curent version ? Can I just go ahead with the implementation through SNOTE Txn and the system will take care of what is to be/already implemented by itself ?

Hi,

this is a warning of the system. If you are sure that it was implemented and the pre-requisites are fullfilled, it will end with a succes message.

They are supposed to have been implemented in old SPs,aren't they ?

So will it overwrite ?

Hello Sandip,

You have to be careful. If the prerequisite note are already been implemented with an old SP, and SNOTE try to implement them again, you can have problems:

If the reports that were changed with the prerequisite notes haven't changed, SNOTE will understand it and not make any changes because it will see that the changes were already applied.

If they were modified inbetween with another note, SNOTE won't recognize it and tell you that this old notes can't be implemented.

You have to check the validity of the correction instructions of the prerequisite notes and check that their validity is not 'all patches'. If that's the case, you have to contact the note author and tell him to correct it.

Maybe you can give me the notes number and your SP level.

When you have checked that the pre-requisites have been implemented by the SAP NOTES, then there is no need to worry about the implementation of you SAP NOTE....

Please go ahead with the implementing of your note.......

It wont affect any thing...

Thanks very very much for your reply.

I was skeptical about this note 1029450 (I am at SP SAPKE46CC0),and was expecting the same thing which you have mentioned in your message about the 'in-between' notes.Its the pre-requisite note 502346 for this note that's causing the problem.

I have applied this note but 2 programs are not consistent now,in the sense that they are acting fine as far as functionality is concerned but they have gone back to previous versions which has some *commented lines etc.

Fortunately,codes are not changed,but I suspect that due to addition of these commented lines when we try to apply the next realeased note for these programs,then the new note may not identify the changes properly.

Am I right ? What I am thinking is to reverse the 2 programs which has been changed with some *commented lines to the original as if 502346 does not have any impact on them.Is this a safe way to proceed keeping in view the fact that all other programs are absolutely unchanged by 502346 ?

Hello Sandip,

I had a look at note 502346 and the correction instruction is valid for all patches.

And there is no SP entry.

You should open a message component PY-IN or speak with the note author.

If the note only commented code lines, you just have to retrieve the old versions of the 2 programs in the version management, so you will be able to apply further notes regarding this 2 programs.

I think I can retrieve the versions and get rid of it as I have to get it through soon.
