Learn ABAP (another post??)

hi all,

i did do a search for "learn ABAP", but i couldnt see anything that touched on what i was looking for.

i was looking to download the netweaver/SAP trial (90 days) to try to set it up and make some ABAP code to start to learn it myself. what i am wondering is will i actually be able to code in ABAP with the downloads offered on the site? and also i couldnt really figure out which netweaver to download...

am i looking at this all wrong? any input is welcome...

Hi Steve. yes you will be able to use all of the development tools for ABAP which are offered in the Netweaver ABAP sneak preview. On the mentioned download page, you want to download the stuff in the last column. This is the ABAP system.

just to make sure before i download the gigs of data, the file that i need is:

Full ABAP Edition-Trial (with Web Dynpro for ABAP!) ??

Also, i found the learn ABAP in 21 days and thats what i've seen around as the best thing to look at for teaching myself ABAP... right?

Yes, that is the download.

The ABAP in 21 days, is probably the best FREE publication.

hehe... i like it... best "Free" works for me for now until i can afford a real book

thanks a lot for the help and im sure i'll be around looking for help with ABAP, but it looks like i should be able to handle it with my C++ and java exp... but we'll see...

Yes, I did emphasize FREE. There is a lot of good books out there to help you understand the syntax and use as well. You might want to check out books from SAP Press. For example, the ABAP Objects book by Horst Keller and Joachim Jacobitz. It is a complete guide to basic ABAP programming. There will be a new version shipped in the near future which will be based on the latest ABAP technology of Netweaver.

As far as your C++ knowlege goes, you will be able to apply some. Also, ABAP OO, is the OO implementation for ABAP, it does implement most of the concepts of OO programming.

seeing as i am very new to abap, but do have some java and C++ exp... or should i get the release before this? "ABAP Objects: Introduction to Programming SAP Applications"

or should they be the same?

had enough of trying to follow the outdated "learn abap in 21 days" heh... old screenshots and methods dont help much...
