How do CDS views gets populated?

Hi All,

I am new to CDS and just curious how the CDS views get populated?

Can you provide a specific scenario (i.e a transaction code in SAP that triggers the insert) or you do it in eclipse?

Quite confused as of the moment.

Do you talk about ABAP CDS Views or HANA CDS Views?

Hm, as far as I understand your request, you try to find out how to create an ABAP CDS view. This is quite well documented in the official documentation. You can check the ABAP Developer Tutorials (here), for instance Create a CDS view (ABAP). And yes, ABAP CDS Views are created using Eclipse via the ABAP Development Tools Plugin.

Thanks for the links, buy I know now how to create a CDS view. My question is how does the source table get populated?

Please take a look at the read highlighted table. How come this table got entries in it? I also checked the other CDS Views they have data already.

Hi Eugene Cabling,

Data will never get inserted in the CDS views, they are not db tables, just views for a reason. They are used to process the data from the source and output it.

What you are looking at is when the CDS view is activated, it will create a view in abap layer. In this view's table/join condition section will have all the sources ( from table, other join tables).

You can also create views manually in SE11, Inside the views, you will provide the data sources(tables) from there the data will be fetched.. You can check help, blogs google for more information on views.
