display a autocad drawing

In the system we are using at this moment (an as400) we have a functionallity that allows us to put the cursor on a partnumber and press a command key to display a autocad drawing. Via a command autodesks voloview is opened with the partnumber as parameter.

We are going to swich to an sap system.

Is it possible to have such a functionallity in sap? I saw somewhere mentioned field exits but they can no longer be used with version 4.7 i think.

Does anybody has an easy way to do this ?

There is a drawing field on the material master. Can the detail be stored there ?

There are some ways I can think of

A. For storage: You can store your files in both application server directories, in presentation layer, in SAP DMS, in a cluster table or in the SAP web repository.

B. For displaying;

1. You can utilize a picture viewer provided that your drawings are supported

2. You can utilize an HTML viewer if possible to display them on a web page

3. You can call a viewer program at the presentation layer to display the drawing

All the above will require customer developments. I do not know whether some reserved place exists for that usage in standard SAP screens. Colin's suggestion may be of that kind.

You can use SAP DMS for it. It supports visulization of AutoCAD files.

Hi,

Picture viewer won't be able to show AutoCAD files.

HTML Viewer won't be of any use if browser plugin for AutoCAD is not installed on the machine from where you are accessing SAP i.e. presentation layer.

You need to use CL_GUI_ECL_VIEWER, which calls a viewer from presentation layer to display drawing files. This viewer is part of standard SAPGUI.
