Hide (suppress) Message

Hello,

I have a question. How can I hide or suppress message (E,I,W) while I am calling any program via submit? I am submitting a report and it gives an error message but I still want to continue inspite of the error message. Is there a way to suppress or hide messages?

You can change in your report the message type to 'S'.

But if you are executing a sap report in which you can not change the source code then i dont think there is a way to supress the message.

I know that some messages can be changed from E to W status in config. But I cannot remember the area. Ask your functional consultant if the message in question, is one of these.

If you use Call Transaction instead you can continue processing after the error message, But not for that transaction.

As far as I know, it is not possible to change message type of a message if it is not hardcoded in the program as to be customized or dynamically changable in case you are calling a standard program.

The way to change the display type of a message is to set a SET/GET parameter (MESSAGE_DISPLAY_TYPE as I remember) before giving the message. But this may have some adverse effects...

I have tried your method with set/get parameter.

PARAMETERS:

gp_mtype.

START-OF-SELECTION.

SET PARAMETER ID 'MESSAGE_DISPLAY_TYPE' FIELD gp_mtype.

MESSAGE e001.

This method is not enough correct. It changes view of message (green point instead red point), but effect stays according to ‘native’ message type.

You can catch Messages if you use a Fuba-Call. Check the online docu for FuBa and refer to the section Exceptions. Like 'OTHERS' there is a special Exception 'ERROR_MESSAGE' which can be used to catch E-Messages.

But this is no help for submitted reports, due they are running in an separate internal mode.

As I noticed in my message;

this is the way to change only the <b>display type</b> of a message. But I observed some side effects of this usage, so not recommended.

However, this part of my message was not intended to reply the main topic.

Hi Mayank,

I got a somewhat different solution for your case. You must have given it a thought already. Not sure if it is <i>acceptable</i> in your case.

If it is just one ( SAP ) report that you are using, then you can just copy that report into a Z-report and call it. Now since you have the report in your namespace, you can edit the report to make any modifications that you want like suppressing the error messages.

However, I do not understand why you would want to suppress the error message and continue the processing. An error message will be issued on some error condition and you want to override that and thereby alter the functionality ? Why would you want to do that ?

If you are calling a standard SAP program, better copy into z program then supress the messages as you want.

there is no concept of suppressing messages in runtime unless they are configurable which starts with V for SD and remember they all are not configurable message.

By the way configurable messages are used in standard applications but not in the reports (in most cases)
