Hi all,

just wondering if anybody has installed minisap. I have tried to install it on an XP machine and it starts the installation by copying the 11 files in the dow prompt window but then just as the first progress bar gets to 100%ish the bar then goes back down to 0 and an error message is displayed in the dos promt window saying there was a problem with the instalation. Anyone got any suggestions as to why this is happening

Thanks in advance

Mart

Seen something like this before. I assume you are trying to install miniSAP 4.6D (MBS) from the ABAP Objects (programming) book. We were trying to install this on a windows 2000 machine, when we has the error.

First check, if you have MS SQLserver on your machine. If you do see the notes else where on the web on how to install on to an existing DB.

If you have MS SQLsever Desktop Engine (MSDE) then you will not have enough space on MSDE to install miniSAP.

If you had a version of MS SQLsever but the license expired, or was deleted. I do not know what to suggest.

Our next attempt was to install WAS6.10 (WA1), however this also failed because of corrupt DLL for the loopback adapter.

We got the system up and running by upgrading to XP, and installing WAS 6.10 (WA1).

So your problem could be an old version of MS SQLsever or a corrupt DLL.

Sorry I cannot be of more help, but maybe this will give you a hint as to where the problem lies.

MattG

The MSDE version of SQLserver is free and is included in a number of other packages. So you have this and not realise it. A way to see if you have SQLserver installed is to look in the registry. However if it is installed you have to work out where it is used, and how to uninstall it if need be.

You do not need to install SQLserver (MSDE) separately it is installed as part of the main installation process.

One thing you could try is to install MSDE separately, by downloading the latest version from MicroSoft, (50Mb I think). This has the advantage of being free of the Slammer worm, and having a number service packs included. But the license agreement is different. You then go to the tempary file folder, where the 11 file were copied, and run the 'resume install of miniSAP' program. See the documents and notes for installing miniSAP on an existing version of SQLserver. Check www.it-minds.com/goto/abapobjects. I have not tried any of this so I do not know if it will work.

As I said earlier I could not get this version to install, nor get beyond this first step, on the machine with this problem. The SAP install utility has not even started. When trying the WAS6.10 (WA1) version the DB installed and loaded but we could not get the loopback process to start.

MattG.

Message was edited by: Matthew Gifford

Thanks to an article at www.SQLserverFAQ.co.uk I found the site www.microsoft.com/sql/msde this has some info about the effect of XP service pack 2 on the database. One example question is:-

Q)How can I tell if MSDE is installed on my computer?

A)Many non-Microsoft companies also use MSDE in their applications, so all customers are encouraged to verify whether MSDE 2000 is installed.

To verify whether MSDE 2000 is installed on your computer, follow these instructions:

Right-click the My Computer icon.

Select Manage.

Double-click Services and Applications.

Double-click Services.

If MSSQLSERVER is in the list of services, the default instance of MSDE is installed on the computer. Other instances may exist, in which case they will be listed as MSSQL$****, where the asterisks indicate the name of the instance.

-

Now for my version of MBS this has the default name.

One other thing to look at is the WAS installation forum here at SDN. A recent message was about installing WAS6.20 which had a similar problem. The response given was to look at the security settings on your PC. So this may be another avenue to look into for a solution.

MattG
