Hi,

Version management is used especially for programs to know the difference between the active program and earlier versions

This is useful in knowing the Code changes that has been done on the program.

You could also compare programs on different servers with Remote comparison.

To go there , Inside the program

Utilities->Versions->Version Management

Hi,

If situation demands u may retrieve previous version also . Version management is very important not only for ABAP Code but for rest of the documents also like Functional Specs , Technical Specs etc, always try to maintain.

Hi,

Version management serves different purposes and user groups:

- The developer can keep track of his or her work ("What have I changed?")

- The developer can restore a previous version by reactivating it.

- The system administrator can monitor work ("Which objects were changed and how in a specific time interval?")

- It provides a basis for any auditor who requires a complete history of changes.

- It enables customers to use the system to adjust data after they have upgraded to a new release.

In a simple terms...

Let us a say that you have created an object in Development Environment and sent it for Production.

But, the Production people dont like some function in that object and sent it back for additional modifications. This time you have changed the object as per their requirement and sent it again with Same Object Name but with some modifications.

But, now the production people dont like this one either, insted they prefer the First One(Without Modifications). In this case what do you do ?.

Normally you dont have the first one because you have already modified it. Here comes the concept of Version Management.

This allows you to access the Object (Without any modifications), even though you have modified it several times with the Same Object Name

To do this , Inside the object go to

Utilities->Versions->Version Management
