Well, in my opinion, reports do not usually make for good objects. If you are working with a regular report progam with a list diaplay, there is no reason to try to write it using classes/methods. Now if you want to convert it to an ALV grid which uses class/methods, then yes, I see a point there. Is this what you want to do? What version of SAP are you using.

Regards,

Rich Heilman

Hello Sooraj

Recently I developed a "report" for a customer which is completely OO-based without any program. The report extracts data from the CATSDB, then aggregates the according to sending and receiving cost centers and orders and finally updates cycles (CO controlling objects).

The final application (based on a MVC architecture) consisted of the following objects:

- controller class (corresponds to the classical report and controls all other objects and user interactions)

- model class (contains the business logic)

- view instance (displays the data as three ALV lists)

- function group (contains the selection screen and the dynpros for displaying the data)

- OO-transaction which starts the report by instantiating the controller class

The dynpros are completely empty (not even a custom container). The view instance provides a reference to a splitter container that is simply linked to the dynpro in a PBO module.

How do you start to convert your report into objects?

The most important step is to identify "objects" with distinct properties.

In addition the classes mentioned already I needed an exception class (certain CATS data should be ignored), a cycle class (handling the CO cycles) and a cost center hierarchy class. These were my "distinct" objects needed.

Regards

 Uwe
