BTE 1030 - Post document

I would like to change the value of the tax code (BSEG-MWSKZ) when posting a document. This I believe can be achieved in BTE 1030. However, I have also heard of issues using this BTE, namely the field (and structure presumably) is overwritten later on.

Can anyone advise on this?

You can use Substitutions instead BTEs. See bellow link:
