Variants are stored set of values for the parameters of a report.

This is done if the report is being executed in the background or the user does not want to enter the same values repeatedly .

variants is a set of data which is given as input for any object.

consider a report with a selection screen, the values u enter on the selection screen disappear every time u execute the report.

so now u enter the values on selection screen and then SAVE, this will ask u to enter a variant name. and then save it

now next time when u execute the report u can see the variant on the appl tool bar. u need to select the variant which wil fill the selection screen with the data which u entered while saving the variant.

Hope by this u get to knw what a variant is?

variant program is where you create variants.

For example if you have a report instead doing the selections all the time.. you save the selection as variant.

which reduces time, errors in input.

And most important thing is you can schedule a background job only using variants.

You can create screen variants throught transaction SHD0(zero).
