ALV List Question

I have very long rows in ALV output. Its more than 550 characters. I made line-size very high (1023) in the report, but it still splits the output row and puts in 2 rows when I run in BACKGROUND (ONLY). When I run in foreground it displays sinnle row.

Any suggestions please.

If you add a line-size, it should be work also in the background

Effect

Creates a report with col columns per line.

If the LINE-SIZE specification is missing, the line length corresponds to the current screen width. The system field SY-LINSZ contains the current line size for generating lists. The maximum width of a list is 1023 characters. You should keep lists to the minimum possible size to improve useability and performance (recommendation: LINE-SIZE < 132). For very wide lists (LINE-SIZE > 255), you should consult the notes for using LINE-SIZE

greater than 255.

Notes

The specified LINE-SIZE must not appear in quotation marks.

If the you want the report list (i.e. the output) to be printable, do not define a LINE-SIZE with a value greater than 132 because most printers cannot handle wider lists. You cannot print lists wider than 255 characters at all using the standard print functions. To print the contents of the lists, you need to write a special print routine that arranges the data in shorter lines (for example, using the PRINT ON addition in the NEW-PAGE statement.

At the beginning of a new list level, you can set a fixed line width for the level using the ... LINE SIZE addition to the NEW-PAGE statement.

Try this:-

6. No_min_linesize(1) TYPE c : The report line size is equal to the width of the list. It is not relevant for block lists.

Value set: SPACE, 'X’.

'X' = line size depends on list width

' ' = Line size is set to 80 or MIN_LINESIZE (if > 0) .

7. Min_linesize LIKE sy-linsz: The report output contains a minimum possible length of line. If initial min_linesize is set to 80 by default, then this parameter is used to customize it. The prerequisite for this is that the parameter no_min_linesize should be ' '.

Value set: 0, 10 - 250

If the list is wider, the format uses the list width (maximum 250 or MAX_LINESIZE (if > 0)).

8. Max_linesize LIKE sy-linsz: The default max. Linesize is 250. To change this default value, this parameter can interactively-define the maximum list width setting.

Value set: 0, 80 - 1020

I have set up the line-size as 1023. It gives output in 2 rows when I run in Background. It foreground it works fine. Do I need to change any settings when I run in background.

Hi,

Did you ever find a resolution to this problem?

I have the same issue, having just upgraded from 46C to 700.

It appears to be related to the new print parameter "Maximum spool width 255 characters" somehow not being effective in background for ALV.

When run interactively if this parameter has a value of "X" the output will wrap; If blank, it doesn't (the desired result).

However when run in background it always behaves as if this has a value "X".

Any insight into a possible solution would be appreciated.
