can anybody please tell me how the short dump id(i.e the name of the short dump) gets generated.

i mean what are the tables where all this info. is there.

short dumps will occur due error in your transaction.

This will help you out in finding the exact cause of the error.

have a look at the transaction st22.

i have seen SNAPT table. it is having almost 2000 distinct entries.

so wht i meant to ask is that are we having only 2000 distinct dump ID names???

what i am trying to find is how SAP gives a name to a particular dump. is this picked from a table like SNAPT or from where???

defeneitly SAP , picks the dump related things from the above mentioned tables only.

the names are pe defined.

The ABAP/4 short dump abend ID used by the system to identify the error.The number of netries in SNAPT depends on how many days of short dumps you want store.. This setting is maintaine dby the BASIS team..

what i want to know is that where this short dump abend ID are stored (i.e from which table SAP assignes a particular dump it's name )

actually i want to see that how many dump names are in the SAP system..

for example we get a dump and it's written on it's top that what it's abend ID is... but there must be a table from where SAP is picking up the names of dump.. please don't misunderstood my question as that where this dump ID names are getting stored once we get a dump.
