difference between with and without modification assistant

what is the difference between the following in:

1.) with modification assistant

2.) without modification assistant

i found these under (modifications and enhancements) in transaction spdd and spau.

please help.

it's urgent.

HI Priya,

I think these things are related to UPGRADATION projects.

SPAU objects in the sense SAP atandard objects.

Suppose in previous version some code INSERTED by client is not vailable in current version in these cases u need to go for WITH MODIFICATION.

Compare both versions if no difference found then u can go 4 without modification directly.Ok.

what exactly does without modification assistant do and how different is it from with modification assistant.

please give more emphasis on without modification assistant part.

hi Priya,

Suppose ur current version 4.6c and upgrade version ecc6.0 ok.

Now u just compare both versions in version management.

Active version is ECC6.0 ok.

Comparing both versions if u fine any differences like some code inserted by user in standard programs using this patch u have to add in active version, this case u can go 4 <b>adapt modification</b>.

Otherwise u didnt fine any differences between these two versions then u can relaese that object direcly by WITHOUT MODIFICATION.

Some cases they changes the logic, u just compare the entire logic and finaliize these two having same logic then u can go 4 without modification.

WILL THE SAME OBJECT BE FOUND IN BOTH CASES: WITH AND WITHOUT MODIFICATION ASSISTANT SO THAT IF I DON'T FIND ANY CHANGES I CAN DIRECTLY GO TO WITHOUT MODIFICATION ASSISTANT AND THEN CAN RELEASE FROM THERE AS SAID ABOVE.

All programs are not original for your development system need the modification assistant, so it means all custom program imported from another SAP and all std program.

If you have to change a program with the help of assistant you have to use the icons on the right of the tool bar: they open only lines code you need to update.

Anyway u can also de-active the assistant.

If you use the assistant all modifications are stored by the system so you can always restore the original version.
