Good questions, its like the HR module was written by someone else and SAP bought it, it is different from the rest of the system. First, infotypes are technically tables, for example, if you are talking about infotype 0001, the transparent table underneath is PA0001, infotype 0002 is PA0002 and so on. You can, and I usually do, use the tables instead of the logical database. I do not like logical databases, because I find them constricting, so I usually hit the db tables directly. The LDBs are predefined selections and links put together by SAP for your convienence(or unconvienence) use them, don't use them, the choice is up to you.

REgards,

Rich Heilman

Since employee data is large and need to store all the history, the accessing should be fast. So infotype provides faster access, authorizations etc. HR infotypes are also like normal tables but with some extra security.

Using LDBs, the Coding part will be reduced as SAP will provide selection screens and the data fetching based on the selection. And also there is no need of writing the selects as if u declare the required infotypes using GET PERNR event the system automatically loads data into the respective internal table(automatically created by system).

Look at the below link for more info

searchsap.techtarget.com/originalContent/0,289142,sid21_gci1030179,00.html

Macros are used to fetch the data from thesee infotypes.

Message was edited by: Vara Prasad Kunathi
