parameters and select options

for eg. if we use both parametrs and selct-options to input a client no from the user in case of paramters if e leave it blank we dont get any entry, but in case of select options we get all. why does that happen?

Hi,

For the select-options you will be using IN operator in the SQL..If there is no record in the select-options the field value in the where clause is not considered..

But for parameters you will be using EQ operator in the SQL..if there is no value in the parameter which means blank..Then if you are selecting with a blank value you will not get any record..unless there is a record available in the database with a blank value..

HI,

It is because of the select-options property that when it is leave empty all values will be selected. and when parameter is empty no value will be selected.

Why exactly does that happen even though we leave the select-options blank the internal table generaled still has null values for low and high.

The select-options internal table is not populated with any records if nothing is entered in the selection screen..If it has one recored with low and high as blank value..Then it will behave similar to parameter with blank value..
