Sending an Excel file from a background program

I have a requirement to write a program that will run in background and send the report results in a tab delimited format to a defined set of users.

I have been looking at the function module SO_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1.

However the file content parameter CONTENT_BIN is based on type SOLISTI1 which is only CHAR255.

The output of my reports results would exceed this.

Firstly can this still be used, and if so how?

If not is there another function module that can do this but is not restricted to 255 characters?

My only other alternative is to get them to change their requirements so that the results can be no more than 255 chars on each line of the report. Or export as HTML in the e-mail body.

Any advice appreciated.

Since the WAS, you have access to a new tool to send mail that facilitates the whole process.

Have a look at the following program: <b>BCS_EXAMPLE_5</b>
