Hello experts,

I'm in process of performing my first user measurement in our environment and have the following question :

Let's assume that we have 5 productive systems to be measured, using common user names (so a named user access all systems with a specific user name).

What is the best practice to be followed? Assign the correct license per system and let the system afterwards make the consolidation, or assign the higher license determined for this user in all systems?

If I assign the correct license per system, I will have much more accurate and correct data, but the effort to keep them maintained each time a measurement is to be done is really big (consider that we are talking for more than 5000 users).

On the other hand, assigning the higher license reduces dramatically the effort but also cause problems when trying to verify the accuracy per system itself.

My understanding is that independent of the way, the result will be the same. Meaning that the user will be counted using the higher license in the end. So I'm trying to understand which approach is considered best (and why).

Any comments or feedback will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Laurent.

Hello Kaushik,

Thanks for the link provided, but it doesnt answer my question.. Or at least, I didn't found the answer in it..

Again, question is :

Let's suppose we have one user ABC accessing 3 different productive systems. In 1 system is classified as sap professional while in the others as sap employee. What is the best approach? To assign the correct classification per system, or to assign the sap professional classification to all systems (as it is the higher license for this specific user)?

Regards,

Laurent.

Hi laurent.fournier3,

I am not sure what exactly you are looking for. Maybe you can try rephrase it in short. Please check my answer/comment in below, if that is what you were looking for

https://answers.sap.com/questions/12975313/slaw-tool.html

In any scenario, you would have to do manually adjust License Type once a year at the time of generating the USMM report for sending to SAP, based on the Usage crossed for the User showing USMM as is explained in the blog

Thanks,

Kaushik

Hello Kaushik,

I'll try to give an example:

So, we have 3 productive systems, 1 erp, 1 srm and 1 bw.

One user access all 3 systems. He is doing heavy work in erp and just approving carts in srm. In bw he runs reports.

So, this user needs to be classified:

As a professional in erp

As employee in srm

As limited professional in bw

Right?

So, when we run the user measurement, the system will consolidate and calculate one license for this user, the heaviest one (professional), right?

So, the question is, how this user is better to be classified in each system? As a professional in all (higher licence, easiest maintenance, less clarity) or with the correct licence in each system (much more clear but much more effort to maintain)?

Does it makes sense what I ask? Am I considering something wrongly?

Sap help states:

"During the consolidation that then takes place in LAW, the users for a person are listed and assigned one contractual user type. The multiple assessment of a person is therefore practically eliminated ‑ the Multi-Client/Multi-System classification is superfluous."

So in the end, during consolidation, only the higher license is kept. Thus, does it make sense to have the appropriate classification per system or not?

Thanks,

Laurent.

Hi laurent.fournier3,

In your reply,

So, when we run the user measurement, the system will consolidate and calculate one license for this user, the heaviest one (professional), right?

You were right upto the above line & also what SAP says is also right, will try to explain.

Multi-Client/Multi-System classification is superfluous. Meaning you have a UserID BASIS in ECC-Prod, ECC-QA, ECC-Dev. So, here only in ECC-Prod you keep the classification of the BASIS user to a License Assignment Type as that is production system, rest in ECC-QA & ECC-Dev you convert it to Test even say for example the Usage of BASIS User was in even higher in ECC-QA than the ECC-Prod. Hence the Explanation of Multi-system. Similarly it does not matter how many clients you have, maybe the ECC-Prod & ECC-QA clients are different, you only set the BASIS User of the ECC-Prod production client to the License Assignment Type

The above example is using BASIS as Dialogue User, of course.

Likewise, if you have a ABAP-developer user with DEVACCESS, that user in the Development system is considered only as "SAP Application Development" count=1, in rest of the systems, you can change to Test. Like this the BW system, the needed User will be having "SAP BW" classification, in CRM system User classification could be "SAP CRM User" in case your organisation has purchased license to use that system. That is why the EULA becomes very important here

I would rather suggest to get the EULA 1st from your organisation even before running USMM & get the System details & User strength accordingly.

Thanks,

Kaushik
