ABAP 7.4 query

Hi,

I am writing a select query in ABAP 7.4 system and is getting error as "The inline declaration Data() is not possible in this poistion).

Below is select query,

Select *

from mara

into table data(it_mara).

Can you please let me know what is the issue.

Note : ABAP is 7.4 while database is Oracle. I believe above statements are ABAP specific and not HANA DB dependent.

This issue is that your code isn't syntactically correct. Try reading the ABAP help on SELECT. Also look for blogs by horst.keller concerning inline declaration.

You are correct that the underlying database is irrelevant.

I have tried using @ as well and it still did not work. My query looks like below,

Select *

from mara

into table @data(it_mara).

Error obtained : E select 484 because the system is running with the database objects from release 740. The system has not completely upgraded to release 749.

Note : We are using ABAP7.4 SP04. Also I have used value # statements in the same system and it works fine.

Note 2346369 might be applicable -> unicode issue. Please post an exact screenshot of the error message. And use comment to reply, not answer.

Are you in an upgrade process, did you activate unicode, did you upgrade to kernel 7.49?

Are you sure that the error is related to this particular SQL?

See note 2346369 - Error: "The system had not been completely updated to release 7.42"

In that case it was a unicode issue. That shouldn't happen from just the code snippet you are trying. I am wondering if the underlying database is the problem, and that it is not fully Unicode compliant?

I have not written anything other than select statment in the program.
