Unable to enter Parameter ID for Data Element

Dear SAP Experts,

I create a parameter ID ZKONTO and want to assign it for data element KONTO. I use the access key (provided by Basis Team) to modify object KONTO. However, it seems the field Parameter ID is disabled in Further Characteristics tab.

You can see that I am in Change mode . I would be grateful if you can suggest the solution.

According to this link https://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw73ehp1/helpdata/en/90/8d7307b1af11d194f600a0c929b3c3/content.htm, it says that "A field can be filled with default values from SAP memory using a parameter ID. A screen field is filled automatically with the value stored under the parameter ID of the data element only if this was explicitly permitted in the Screen Painter. To specify the parameter ID, go to the Further Characteristics tab page and make the entry in field Parameter ID."

So I assign and enable GET parameter ID in Screen Painter but it is still no hope .

Has this parameter ID maintained in Table/View TPARA, If not please maintain and check it again.

Yes, it has been maintained in table TPARA. Is there anything else should I check ?

try switching off the modification assistance EDIT->Modification Assistance.

Hi Menka and Shadab,

You are correct. By switching off modification assistance, the field is enabled.

However, when I go to Technical Information for the field, I still cannot see the parameter ID appear under the Data Element KONTO. Please advise what else do I need to configure ?

Hi Danny,

Since it`s a Z report, why not directly assign a memory id on that screen field 'P_KONTO'?

PARAMETERS: P_KONTO TYPE KONTO MEMORY ID 'XXX'.

Hi Danny,

Since this data element was created in a different system, you need to use a "Modification" operation. Put your cursor in the parameter id field, then click on the "Change subobject" icon. The system will display a popup screen letting you to enter the value you want.

Thank you for the useful tip. I can assign the parameter ID. But in Technical Information for data element KONTO, I still do not see the parameter ID appear . Do you know the reason ?

Hi Archer,

The current code is P_KONTO TYPE KONTO OBLIGATORY DEFAULT '161010'

Per your suggestion, the code will be changed to P_KONTO TYPE KONTO MEMORY ID 'ZKONTO_ACCTNO'. Let me try it .

Hi Danny,

I think the technical attributes would show the parameter id only for screens created in the screen painter, not for selection screens. Normally you shouldn't manipulate selection screens in the screen painter.

Hi Danny,

After activating the data element it should show the parameter id.I have tried in my system and it is working as expected.You had mentioned that you had assigned the parameter Id in the screen also.Now you don't need parameter over there.Please remove it from the screen and try.

I am not a very good at ABAP so I do not know which way is better to assign parameter ID to prepopulate user data, directly assign it (like Archer suggested) or assign it in the data element ?

Dear Danny,

As per the screenshot, we found it is custom development screen .

We have multiple ways to populate the value in custom screen field.

If Parameter ID option required, instead of changing the standard data element 'KONTO', kindly create custom data element ZKONTO.

Add parameter in ZKONTO data element and use the same in custom screen.

If your report is customized one than you can go with the above method,

Also one small correction No inverted commas needed('ZKONTO_ACCTNO') for parameter ID only ZKONTO_ACCTNO is sufficient .
