Replacing Select statement for better performance

Actually in extractor there are 5 fields which i need to again take a copy and create zz field as we dont want to touch the original field values we need to perform some calculation on the new enhanced fields while doing that we have written an exit for populating values to the new field using select statement which i need to replace with something like what output coming for the original fields same thing should also copy for the new enhanced ones. So for example i need like "Output of ZZBSTMA = input of BSTMA" without using select statement.
