Material without leading zeros

Good Evening

I have a problem concerning the matnr domain in mara table.

I have currently the conversion exit routine MATN1.

I need to change this conversion exit in the domain from MATN1 to MATN2, because the result is better with MATN2.

In MARA table, i have about 1 million material master data.

My questions are two:

1)Is it possible, to make this change and how?

2)What are the impacts about material master data, if i change?

As you know this is a standard SAP data element/Domain, we were not suppose to change these.

You would need Object access key which is never ever a good idea.

May be you can create a ZMATNR, a new field in APPEND STRUCTURE, with your new Z domain/convr routine.

When material is getting created, use available userexit/BADI to fill this new value in MARA.

Hi Francesco,

As Lokesh said, this is not a good idea to change this kind of standard object.

Do not forget that this Domain is not only used in MARA table, but also in many other objects.

Try using in your programs the functions available in the conversion routine MATN2, but do not change this standard object to avoid big troubles in the future!

Please provide your requirement is it for a single custom development you want to implement these choice..Not a good move ...

As mentioned by Lokesh create an include structure and call the field in your user exits/badis for establishing these.

I know tha each problem needs the best solution.

For this reason i create this post, and i will follow your advice.

My info about the content of mara (and linked tables), was to put in evidence tha quantity of data to be impacted.from this conversion

Lokesh, i can't create a ZMATNR, for several reasons, because it would be the natural solution.

So i think, any change will be made, to the current standard routine conversion exit.
