Does anyone know if SAP has any documentation on best practices for when to use User exit, customer-function, BTE, BADI, enhancement etc? I would like to have a document that we can use as a guideline when making changes.

It would be purely requirement based, which ever suits.

Thanks for the response. I realize ultimately it is specific to the application area. Not every application area always has all the different methods for making changes. However some of them have all of them available. So there may be times when we know we only have a specific choice. It is those times when we have multiple solutions to our issue that I am trying to understand what the reccomendation is from sap.

I'm thinking that the implicit is the last option you should ever take. Then next is the explicit enhancement. Not real sure on the rest if for instance you have BTEs available as well as customer-functions available which one should be the first choice if all of them will accomplish what you need??

I have seen a document a while back that had this in it but I am unable to find it. I believe when we put on EHP5 we had this documentation. Which has been a little while ago.

I looked at the document you provided and it is really to focused on BADIs. but certainly will be helpful so thanks.
