Using ABAP function calls in HANA

Hi everyone,

I am very new to the ABAP workspace. Is it possible to call ABAP function modules from the HANA database? We have a long raw field in a table that we would like to convert to text. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Anu,

Can you try using the 'string' function available in the Calculated column? You have to use either Calculation view or Analytic view for this.

Hi Vinod,

This field that is coming into HANA is unreadable text. There is a function module called Read_Text that will output a readable string, but I have no idea how to call it within HANA.

ABAP calling to HANA DB is possible... I believe nothing for the reverse manner presently.

Hi Anu,

The READ_TEXT function module is to read Text ids. For this you need the text id information like ID, NAME, OBJECT etc. You have mentioned that the HANA DB contains unreadable text. Can you please explain more about the requirement? From where you are planning to call this FM? What format is the unreadable text?

We are implementing SLT at a client site. We read tables in from ECC like STXH and STXL. There's a raw field in STXL that contains hexadecimal characters and it seems like we have to use the read_text function module with the correct parameters to decrypt the string.

Since SLT just passes the data, I think it would be best if we could call the function module from HANA since we have access to both tables.

There were a lot of posts out there suggesting that we use the function module in ECC to fill a z table with the decrypted strings, but the table would not be real time. And that defeats the purpose of SLT.

Any help or thoughts would be appreciated!

Hi,

If SLT has the capability for you to include own user-exit transformation ABAP logic and output the string data into another customized table to save the "decrypt" string content, it may be possible to achieve what you want. Inside the user exit you have to call FM READ_TEXT to decrypt the LRAW content.

Is this kind of user-exit available in SLT?

Hi Anu,

Please try the following.

Take the transaction iuuc_repl_content for the advanced replication settings.

Select the configuration and then select the table.

You should be able to add ABAP code for a field using this transaction.

I know this post is a bit old, but I have a similar requirement to bring the texts from the READ_TEXT function module into HANA. We are using SLT for the replication of all other data into HANA. Did you find a solution to address this?
