hi,

i need some inputs on the below scenario...its like this..

The user enters a 5 digit zip code, country ,street, city into an ABAP screen, the program should take the those details connect to and external internet site

(for eg: https://tools.usps.com/go/ZipLookupAction!input.action ) and give the complete 10 digit zip code.

What are the different options where in I can incorporate this functionality in the abap program.

Input appreciated....

Hi Kavitha,

The link you had posted takes user input into some text fields, these text fields in HTML might have assigned with some id. The problem here is whether it be SAP JAVA or anything, applications can not talk to each other using text fields.(i.e. SAP system cannot go and input values into these fields and then parse the whole html page to get the zip code).

It would have been possible if you get some API, where in you communicate with a web server passing street address in URL or XML or any file, or even byte code. And the server also has to respond to the obtained value in a predefined fashion(like it should reply in bytecode).

Even if any third party provide you the interface to talk to these field, there is bigger risk involved. Because quite possible that tommorow they might change the field name. and application will start dumping( or will not give result)

Hi,

That server also provides certain API for postal search. I hope you have yours registered, then in that case go through the technical documents of that API. And hopefully it will communicate in http only, if yes then all you need to do is

from ABAP trigger data to PI-XI

get PI-XI configured for that server(SM59 might be helpfull for http destinations)

PI-XI will trigger data to server

it will read it back to SAP system

you get the data

First get the technical document ready from that webserver. You google out to get example of abap http request. You will definatly get some.

we used Melissadata address cleansing web service (REST based) with our SAP system via ABAP, and have a project up on SCN that perhaps could serve as a guide how to do this.
