Choose Main Program For

What is the significance for choosing main program while editing a standard include using modification assistant? Is this option applicable only to standard includes? I have created a custom include and called that include in three reports. While editing custom include, I was not asked to choose any main program.

I am currently adding an explicit enhancement and editor is asking to choose a main program. Is it required to choose main program or can I simply cancel that popup and proceed with enhancement changes?

Hi,

Logically an Include is used for re usability. What ever changes you make to the include it will reflect in all the programs having that include.

So I believe it won't make any differences what main program you choose.

Hello,

Include are solely for modularizing source code and have no parameter interface. This is used for reusablility and has same effect as copying the source code into another.

I also dont think there is a impact of choosing a Main program. You can choose any of the program and activate your include because without choosing any program, i guess you cannt activate it.

I believe that the main program selection would def. be mandatory -

Program-bound enhancement implementations in a multiple-use include can only be displayed when the related main programs are generated.

There is no way you can skip main program and activate your enhancement and use it. For more information you can have HELP.SAP -> Enhancement technology.

The system is just compiling the program, and showed in the list where this include was used, so it can compile and check for any inconsistencies with the main program. If include program are compiled separately without any main program they sometimes gives error like

"REPORT/PROGRAM Statement Missing, or program type is I (INCLUDE)".
I always thought that it should actually be good that we could select all main programs so that it can check inconsistencies with every program, but we can only check one main at a time and it just compiles your include and check inconsistencies for that main program only.
