SPAU & SPDD Problem

Dear experts,

I am not able to understand SPDD and SPAU activity very well.

Though i have gone through almost all text i could gather from this site.

I have noticed messages are removed by site administrator for those who ask this question

as they consider it been asked too many times.

I just want to say they are wrong in their judgement to remove such responses.People are answering same what sap give in documentation.

And i think what sap gives in documents is 100 % scattered information without any practical basis.

How will the people understand ??.This is main reason why people ask same question repeatedly.

I believe only those people who devote their time on system and believe in concept of sharing knowledge.

With this belief i put forward my question to audience.

We see grey color status on obsolete notes after implementing a support package 'X'.SAP recommends to remove grey list,

by reset to original.

My question is why i should even think to touch grey color when correction has been delivered in support package.

Instead if i choose Reset to original ,i am reverting back to old state that was existing before patch 'X' implementation. Why sap dialog box recommends Reset to original,i wonder this.

Hi Aditya,

The reason they are recommending you to use the activity "reset to original" is because that tells the system to reset the status of the affected programs, function group, classes, dictionary elements, etc in the note to what is included as part of the support package. Essentially this is marking the item as complete and telling the system that you do not want to include any modifications to the note.

From SAP help:

An original is the version that was imported into the SAP System during the last upgrade or import of a Support Package.

Hi Aditya ,

Whether RESET TO ORIGINAL or ADOPT MODIFICATION.

This two options are available to fix the objects reflected in SPDD transaction. Here the Technical team has to do a Version comparison of the object & analyze whether they require the custom change. If the custom change is required in ECC 6.0, then select ADOPT MODIFICATION else select RESET TO ORIGINAL ( i.e. you do not require the custom change which was done in the old system. Instead you want the standard version of the object in ECC 6.0 system )

sorry i am not able to understand SPAU activity.If i do SPAU as first activity even before upgrade ,i see example 4 grey note and then after upgrade i see 4 new grey icons coming up .How do i understand whats going in my system ?.

Ok if i finally believe that this grey icon code correction will be covered in support package then how do i know whether it is in current one or for some previous for which i didn't do a spau activity ?

Ok if i assume that grey are ones where new support package is covering the changes implemented by sap note X which was implemented some time back thereby making same obsolete then ideally my strategy should be to accept change of new support package or do nothing at all.

But why reset to original ie version before support package ?

What i marked below in bold is again contradictory as i find something different meaning for reset to original in sap docs.They mean retaining version to state before upgrade.

hi ,

Transaction SPDD allows you to adjust modifications to ABAP Dictionary

SPDD contains the list of all modified Data Dictionary objects, like tables, dataelements, domains,view...etc. The rest of all the modified repository objects will be listed in SPAU.

you can see that in case of obsolete notes you can reset their status.

Does this apply only to the notes included in the Support Packages that are currently being imported?

What about the obsolete notes that are included in Support Packages that were imported in previous SP upgrades?

Can we safely reset those as well?

I just wonder things are released without any foundation of knowledge.Why such systems are even given a thought to evolve which can put your business at risk by an individual.

Tell me rob then caption should be "Set to imported package" or "Rest to Original".When i have not even set how can i think to reset ?
