Hi There!

I am new to SAP and to sdn community as well. I had posted the question in SAP Mobile forum and was redirected to this forum.

I believe there are ways of scanning badges embedded with QR codes into SAP (scanning the badge should autofill username and password in SAP GUI) Are there any special requirements on the choice of hardware(scanner) to be integrated with SAP? Also is there a way to disable manual typing of username/pwd on SAP GUI so that authentication is only through scanning. Any information on this regard will be of great help!

Thanks!

QR codes saved in bmp format can be uploaded in SAP and processed further.

For automatic username/password, you can create a Connection String in MI with the Service Username and password.

Regards,

Pranav.

Thanks Pranav! Are there standard scanners recommended by SAP for GUI integration? Also is it possible to write ABAP custom codes in SAP such that users will not be authenticated when they type in username/password in order to enforce scanning of badges? We are using the basic SAP ABAP platform.

Thanks!

Edited by: Divya Sridharabalan on Dec 2, 2011 3:19 PM

Hi Pranav - Thanks for your response! To elaborate - once the scanning of badges is in place, I do not want users to manually type their user name and password on SAP Logon screen. Hence the username/pwd tab on the logon screen must be disabled for typing. Or it should be able to recognize when user scanned as opposed to when user typed his username/pwd and should not log in the user in the latter case. Can custom codes be written to control this activity? Thanks!

Hi Divya,

As you mentioned, scanning of a badge & SAP logon are 2 independent activities. The best possible way I can recommend is using Integration where the source system becomes your badge scanning software and destination is SAP.

To integrate the badge scanning software with SAP, you are using MI which has connectors/drivers that speak to your Badge Scanning software. For e.g. Java Connectors. These connectors have a predefined connection string format which depends on your source system and MI configuration (to be done by the BASIS Team). The SAP BASIS - MI Team with the Badge Scanning software team need to integrate the systems using connectors.

Once done, on the event of a badge scan, the source system can call a BAPI in SAP without the user entering username/password as the integration configuration takes care of it.

This is the entire process definition, but, I can't give code examples as this is not an ABAP exercise.

Regards,

Pranav.

Thanks again Pranav! I understand the integration process. However what I am looking to know is, can the SAP GUI be customized in a way that logon will accept inputs only from the scanner and reject inputs from manual typing. Could we force SAP GUI to take in username/pwd only from scanned entries and not otherwise?

Thanks

Divya

Hi, you can implement BADI and then put external break point. then try to create order. IF you see control is stopping in your BADI implementation, then during the debug mode , you can change payment method.
