Creating Reservations from scanner

Hi,

We have requirement is to create Reservations items automatically through scanner like, user will use the scanners and this should create reservations in SAP automatically in background

Is that possible in SAP?

Some time back we were looking at similar solution and came across softwares which would get image from scanner extract data from scanned image (which can be programmed to specify position of text in document) and call function in SAP (using RFC) to post document. From SAP point of view the development required was RFC enabled function module.

Coming back to the question. Yes, it is possible but may not be feasible just by using ABAP.

Using specialised OCR software to extract data would be more viable to complete scanning and text recognition part of it.

PS: In our case we scraped the idea as our vendor agreed to send softcopy of invoice (searchable pdf). We extract text from these pdfs into csv file and uploaded into SAP using BDC.

Hi Sivaparvathy,

In general we will upload this data through RFC. We did the same for production order confirmation. We took all the operations on xls and then scanned, the scanned operations will placed in xls the same will be uploaded through RFC.You can check for the rfc and with scanning software guys.If there is no standard RFC available the make a custom RFC.

I am very wary of saying "Yes, GuiXT, go for it" without having more information first.

The information that you are scanning? Would it be barcode based information?

Are you looking at doing some OCR?

Using GuiXT, we have achieved the solution you are looking for. The only ROI to check would be if GuiXT can be used for other processes also. If yes, then it's a very small price to pay for gaining recurring benefits. Basically, this is what was done:

1. The standard SAP screen for Requisition was modified using GuiXT to hide unwanted fields and have elements relevant to the process

2. A DLL (C++) was written to read and convert the data spit by Barcode scanner, through its driver software API

3. The barcode scan was made the start-point (trigger) to the overall GuiXT process...Scan->Data Read->Automatic Requisition Creation.

The customer had partial-automation initially to gain more trust, before going ahead and implementing complete automation, just like what you're looking at. Hope this would help.

You can try this out using a trial license of GuiXT. Let me know how it works out.

How do we integrate scanners like HP Scanjet 7000N to store documents to m-files or SAP DMS?

I have below query need to be clear:-

Does M-File allow for incoming files from a scanner. How can it be done
Does SAP allow for incoming files to be received from a scanner and how it can be processed.
