The Output message type triggers a std SAP program to create the IDOC. The Std program triggers the IDOC and sends to the partner information maintained in the condition records.

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/dc/6b7c9f43d711d1893e0000e8323c4f/content.htm

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/c8/198a5e43b111d1896f0000e8322d00/frameset.htm

Cheers

VJ

Message was edited by: Vijayendra Rao

EDI and ALE is a process of transferring data using IDOCs.

You can find more help on EDI and ALE and how they both use IDOC.

Sure u can award points later

Cheers

VJ

Thanks VJ and MAX. From your points I understand the following, let me know whether I am correct.

We will be Creating an IDOC Type for the Same kind of Business Transactions.

We will be also creating the Message Type and this will be attached to the IDOC Type.

Necessary configuration are made.

When the Business User creates a PO for example, based on the configuration we have made, the corresponding message type will be selected automatically and further Technical Processing will be executed and an IDOC will be created to be sent out to the other application system.

What is a Control Record Means?

Thanks for your HELP>

Hi Mohan,

Yes ur understanding is correct.

The condition record is sort of master data which is maintained in order for the system to propse a output type.

NOt all PO created in your system would trigegr an idoc. So to restrict only to few records we maintain the condition records so while create a PO the system check the condition records and proposes the output type if the conditions are met.

You can check the condition records by using tcode NACE --> Select the application say for PO it would be EF and then click on the CONDITIONS RECORDS button on the application tool bar.

Cheers

VJ

Message was edited by: Vijayendra Rao

Hi Mohan,

OUTPUT types or Message control is used to issue messages. This simply in a laymans language means to send a message to either an external system using ( IDOC ) or issue a message to a printer using a Print option or send an email or issue a message to a FAX machine.

Most of the business documents like Purchase order, Sales order, SHipping documents, Material documents all will have MESSAGE CONTROL or OUTPUT CONTROL. SAP has provided message control for most of the std SAP business transactions. This is to use the available medium based on your requiremnt and send a message either to a fax machine or to a printer or send a file as an email or send an IDOC.

>> Output type will define which Partner the IDOC has to be sent. It will have one of the field as a Partner. Say for example if you are sending a delivery document to your partner then the partner will be defined in the output types so the From the output type the system will determine the partner. Based on the partner it will determine the customizing settings and technical system details based on which it will send an IDOC to the relevant system.

>> WHen i mentioned not ALL PO's are sent , i meant that you can configure ur sysetm to send a PO only when it is required. Its not necessary that once the customizing system is in place it will send idocs for all PO's . You can control when to send an IDOC and when not to send based on the condition records maintained in your system.

Cheers

VJ
