I have found several questions about changing the data element and the general view is that it is never a good idea.

However : it all envolved changing the domain also.

What I need is to change the data element from (example) 'IS_TRUE' to 'INSCRIPTION_SUCCEEDED' both of which have domain char(1).

Is that possible without any impact (accept on views of course) ?

Thanks!

Possible it is. If it's exactly the same domain nothing will go wrong.

But if are 2 different domains (both with type char length 1) just check if there are not (different) single values or value table defined (tab Value Range when displaying domain). Even if there is you'll be able to change the element, but the data already in the table can be inconsistent with the new value range.
