Question about CATT

CATT sometimes may be used to upload master data record.

I have created a customed table and want to import data

to it from an excel file. How can I make use of CATT?

Any reference or tutorial suggested to demo the procedures? Thanks a lot!

(Methods other than CATT that serve the purpose are also welcomed!)

Hi!

If you want to use CATT, you need a transaction where you can add an entry manually. This might be SE16 (there is a Insert-function, just most times deactivated) or SM30. SM30 is usually way, just create a table maintenance screen.

Then create a CATT-recording of inserting one entry. When you run the CATT with your excel file, you can add all entries step after step.

Faster way might be a small report with FM GUI_UPLOAD and an INSERT-statement.

The process of uploading data with a CATT

Activate CATT in your client

In transaction code SCC4 - click the change button

Double click on the client number

In the Restriction section, tick Allows CATT processes to be started.

Upload data using CATT

1. Create Import variant for the fields you need

Transaction SCAT

Goto Parameters

Create Import Variant

Goto Variant -> Edit

Goto Variant -> Fast entry or F9

Duplicate 01

2. To change the MRP Group for a list of Material

Assuming that I want to change the MRP Group for a list of Material.

My text files should look something like this:

[Variant ID] [Variant Text] &ZDISGR &ZMATNR

--> Parameter texts MRP group Material

--> Default Values M1 A001

Changes to the default values displayed above not effective

#01 M1 A001

#02 '' A002

#03 M1 A003

Note : '' denotes a blank in the field. e.g. Material A002 MRP group will be replaced by a blank.

3. Configure the recorded entry fields to read from the imported text file data

In the CATT : Maintain functions test case Screen

Double click on the Object Name

Double click on the screen number with your desired fields

Park the cursor on the fields

Click Edit -> Details

Fill in the Parameters Name and Field Contents

Finish Save it.

Assign your text file data.

In the CATT : Execute test case Screen

Click External from file and choose your text file

CATT will now read from your text file and update whatever data you have specified.

Usually from what I have seen CATT is not used for regular transactions in the productive environment. I have only seen LSMW used for the transfer of data from non-SAP systems to SAP systems. It guides you thru your data migration tasks.

- Start of CATT processes allowed: This option determines whether you want to allow the CATT (Computer Aided Test Tool) process in the client or not. Computer Aided Test Tool (CATT) is tool provided by SAP to test different functionality of the SAP system. To run the CATT tool you can execute transaction SCAT. CATT process changes the database extensively and requires lot of system resources. So we recommend not to chose this option if you are in the production environment.

There has also been some comments on LSMW on this forum:

- The Legacy System Migration Workbench (LSMW) is a tool recommended by SAP that you can use to transfer data once only or periodically from legacy systems into an R/3 System.

Hi Wohlfahrt,

I have tried to record a transaction SE16 in CATT, but I can't end the record after save the record. It requires me to go back to the CATT screen by pressing 'back' or 'exit' to end the recording session. Thus, these actions are also recorded. Besides, how to map the field of the excel file to the input? When I tried to execute the recording again, it used the value that I input during recording in stead of using those in excel file. Thanks!

I have also searched the things you mentioned from the web. However, I can't follow the steps specified.

T-Code SCAT -> goto Parameters

I found no way to 'Create import variant'... Have you tried it before? Can you please give me more detail about the steps? Thanks a lot.

Hi Gundam,

Go to SCAT and record your transaction and at the end of the transaction recording when you go back to the CATT screen , you can say "End Recording". Now you have recorded a transaction and you can maintain parameters and variants as follows.

You can maintain the parameters by doubleclicking the Functions in the "Maintain Functions" screen which will take you to the "Details for Functions" screen. Now double click on the Screen. This takes thru the simulation of that particular screen.Double click on the screen fileds and maintain the parameter name and default values.

Maintaining Variants:

In "Maintain Functions screen" navigate to the path GO TO->Variants->Export Default. Specify the path where you need to save the file. Open the file in tabdelimited format.This will provide you a file with the default variant. You can maintain your variants in this file from Line 4 and save it in tab delimited format again.

Now specify this file by setting the Option "External from file" for variants while executing the test case.
