Unicode-Migration on one server: DB-Import + kernel-switch sufficient ?

Hello,

I'm doing a unicode migration of a Netweaver 7.0 (BI) double stack system using one server. The database export via sapinst has produced ABAP dump files and a JAVA dump file for the JAVA schema of the database.

My question is:

As Central Services Instance and Central Instance already exist, is it possible to just recreate and load the database with the unicode export without running SCS- and CI-installation and change the kernel manually ? Or do I have to complete all steps anyway for some reason ?

Hi Josef

For ABAP stack you need to export everything for sure. But for Java part, it's an interesting topic, I personally think just replacing the old NU kernel with unicode one should be fine but not 100% sure. If you don't have room for error there, I'd suggest to do it with the most formal way.

Hi,

You must reinstall your central instance with Unicode kernal other wise you will face problem.

While doing system copy you must use Unicode kernal and codepage of target system (which you did while export).
